A VIEW THROUGH THE CLERESTORY
This work uses fractals- and their many organic forms: galaxies, hurricanes, coastlines, rivers, lightning, capillaries- as a metaphor for a natural world that is full of accessible spiritual intelligences. Each page in the book is a study in a type of fractal. This is done in multiple ways: by exposing pages in fractions of time, by allowing the cyan fluid to flow over the paper like rivers flow across the ground or by folding the paper before it is exposed.
The form is a book-fluffy and oversized (20”x20”). It is created with diptych and triptych pages that unfold and it is meant to be viewed through a teleidoscope allowing the viewer to continually create fractal patterns.
Each square page is hand quilted in variations of squares – or halves of squares: triangles- on the fractal patterns, leaning back into the symbolism as the square as human and of the earth.
